The Black Sea Catchment is internationally known as one of ecologically unsustainable development and inadequate resource management, which has led to severe environmental, social and economic problems. The European FP7-project enviroGRIDS aimed to gather, store, distribute, analyze, visualize and disseminate crucial information on the environment of the Black Sea catchment in order to increase the capacity of decision-makers and other interested stakeholders to use it for development of most relevant management options. A state of the art Grid-enabled Spatial Data Infrastructure (G-SDI) was build as a component of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) targeting the needs of the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution (BSC) and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
