World Water Week, held from August 20 to 24, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden, brought together leading experts, innovators, and organizations from around the world to discuss and address pressing water-related challenges.
The international team of Antea Group, made up of experts from all around the world, was present as an exhibitor at this prestigious event which included live sessions and networking events.
The first Antea Group session, “Nature-based Solutions to Strengthen Urban Climate Resilience”, featured two engaging panel discussions. The first panel explored the hurdles and opportunities in integrating nature-based solutions into urban planning. The second panel continued to disentangle policy and finance challenges to accelerate NbS implementation in cities.
During this session, the keynote speaker Sarantuyaa Zandaryaa from UNESCO delved into the realm of nature-based solutions (NbS) for creating water-wise and resilient cities. She highlighted how the efficiency and effectiveness of nature-based solutions depend on local hydrological and environmental characteristics as well as climate conditions. She also stated that although we could learn from ancient practices, new challenges arise and demand new solutions.
“Connecting People, Cities, and Oceans” was the title of the second session held by Antea Group. It brought together six experts from around the globe who shared their incredible experience in restoring coastal zones and navigating the unique challenges they face. From working with nature in coastal areas, conservation of mangroves, and engaging coastal communities, to reflections on the interstitial realm between people and oceans, this session captivated the audience with the diversity of the presented projects.
In addition, a riveting panel discussion raised critical questions such as “How can we mitigate the negative effects of human activities on coastlines? How can nature-based solutions be seamlessly integrated into urban planning? How can we ensure that every one of us benefits from blue economy opportunities, leaving no one behind?”. The answers to these questions are vital in charting a sustainable and harmonious future for our world's most precious resource − water.
The Antea Group international team’s presence not only highlighted their passion for water-related issues but also allowed them to learn from the diverse perspectives and experience of other experts in the field. The invaluable conversations and connections made during this event will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on the world's water resources.
